Liar, liar, pants on, itís true.

Whilst the grounds staff were marking out the cricket boundary at Mineralwell yesterday an old timer walking his dog related a story concerning one Harry Allen, Stonehaven Thistle stalwart and one of those responsible for resurrecting the Club in 1955 after World War 2.

One day in the 1960's at Baird Park (then known as County Park) Harry was fielding on the boundary and as he was apt to do, taking time to smoke his pipe. Suddenly to shouts from his team mates of the ball's imminent arrival, Harry unsighted, turned his back on the ball which struck him on his back trouser pocket igniting the contents of his box of matches. There then followed a Benny Hill sketch of Thistle players chasing a blazing Harry round the park trying to put him out.
